Home décolletage has been on the rise in Calgary for years, but the Spring Window brand has captured the imagination of many with its chic look.
“We were always the underdog,” said Mark Gartley, president of Spring Window, adding that he and his wife had no idea what they were doing when they started making clothes in 2009.
The company has been in business since 2007, but it has expanded rapidly.
“It’s grown so much in the last two or three years, I think we’ve seen a really rapid expansion,” said Gartler, who also serves as president of the Calgary Home Decor Association.
He attributes the surge in demand to the high-fashion trend, with designer labels such as Marc Jacobs and Gucci releasing products in the Spring window fashingion craze.
“If you go back to when we started in 2009, it was a very niche category and very hard to break into.
It was pretty hard for us to get a label out there and be able to make a big impact on the market,” he said.
“With the growth of the fashion trend and the increased availability of these designer labels, it’s made it so much easier for us.
We can make a really big impact, but we also have to work harder.”
Gartleys wife, who is also an executive at Spring Window and the association, said the couple has been very impressed with the impact the brand is having in Calgary.
“I think it’s going to be the best season ever for Spring Window,” she said.
Gartlers success with the brand, however, has not gone unnoticed by the industry.
“There is a lot of buzz around the brand and there are a lot people out there buying Spring Window stuff,” said Heather Anderson, president and CEO of the Home Decoration Association of Canada.
“They have been getting so much attention from brands and brands are selling into the industry, too.”
The Spring Window label is available in the United States, Canada and Australia, and the company has a presence in more than 70 countries, including the United Kingdom, Italy and France.
“The Spring Window tag has been incredibly popular in Canada, with many brands wanting to get in on the trend and be part of it,” said Anderson.
The company also has a relationship with the Calgary Design Council. “
Our industry is a very large and diverse one, and Spring Window is the brand that we are looking to represent.”
The company also has a relationship with the Calgary Design Council.
“Spring Window is a great example of a brand that has been a part of Calgary for a very long time,” said Michelle Smith, executive director of the council.
“Their brand is extremely unique, but they are also very relatable to the city.”
Smith said she and the council are happy to see Spring Window becoming a more mainstream brand.
“When we launched Spring Window back in 2009 and had a few years to build a brand, we were really fortunate in that we didn’t have any competition.
It just took off and grew organically,” she told The Canadian Press.
“You have to be lucky to find something that is going to go through a brand evolution like this.
It is amazing.”
For the past few years, Spring Window has been working with designers to help them design more sophisticated home décollets, including a collection inspired by the new season of Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things.
The collection, which was unveiled at the Fall Fashion Show, was designed by designers such as Stephanie Bezier, who helped design the iconic “Spongebob Squarepants” house, and Nellie W. Miller, who designed the “Ghostbusters” house.
Spring Window also has worked with the fashion brand Dolce & Gabbana, whose designers have collaborated with the company to create bespoke home décor for the Spring windows.
“This was a collaboration with Dolce and Gabbanna on a custom-designed Spring Window for the Dolce&Gabbana Spring Collection,” Spring Window said in a statement.
“Dolce &Gabbanna are the world’s leading home déColletage brand, having won the prestigious Pritzker Award for Best Interior Design in 2017.
Their collection of bespoke décolles are available for purchase online and in the Dolces and Gaboras stores.”
The designer-designed fashios can be worn as décor or hung in a space, and include accessories like hoodies, sweaters, coats, hats and scarves.
The Spring window collection was created by the team at Gartner Inc. in Toronto, which includes Gartly, a former fashion editor at GQ.
Garten is a fashion journalist and designer with a background in fashion, architecture, design and architecture.
